Hmn. [ she looks over at him then back at what she's doing, carefully pulling the knob free from the door after taking the screws out ]

A favor.

[Which means you get points, Meadow. And he fully expects her to come up with something along the lines of holding hands.]

[ favors are the best thing to ask for because then she can ask for anything later, pretty much. it's like a reign-check. she's trying to think of something good ....because outright asking for hand holding is so embarrassing! how can she work that into something else?

she hands him the knob before happily moving along again. ]

Some people don't like owing favors, I heard.

[And now he has two doorknobs in his hands. What a day.]

Then they're weak. Me, I'll do anything, as long as it's worth it.

So, you gonna make it worth my while?

[ here is a third. how are they going to carry these? ]

I wouldn't want to waste your time.

[Don't worry about it, Meadow. He can get them a basket later.]

Aw. I wouldn't want that either.

[Is he even being mean? It's hard to tell, but his tone sounds kind enough.]

Thinking about that favor?

[ she's not reading it as mean. four doorknobs for you. ]

All I can think of is silly. [ sheepishly. she pauses then adds ] And something about slashed tires. [ ????? ]

[carrying them in his arms now.]

Slashed tires. How criminal of you. Unless you want me to go to jail.

I don't want you to go to jail! ...That's not a favor. That's unrelated. Nevermind.

[ muttering it out quickly. if anyone is getting blamed for going into the garage and slashing scott summers' bike tires later, you're looking at the actual culprit. she really needs to stop following this stuff through... ]

You're going to think my favors are stupid right now unless I think of a better one.

And now you're keeping secrets from me?

[he arches his brows at her, eyes otherwise lazy. Meadow, you'll break his heart.]

I thought we were good friends.

It's not a secret. I haven't done anything yet.

[ frowning at him. oh no don't be upset she'll tell you ]

We are.

Well, fine.

[and after a pause-]

I could always just help you improve on those ideas.

[ doubting. it's really not a secret right? right? right?

she's turning to face him, stopping what she's doing for a moment ]

I might need a little help with them. [ they all INVOLVE HOLDING HANDS so so dumb ]

So go head. I'll give you my brightest, bestest input.

I want to eat lunch with you. [ like all the time ]

[doesn't even think twice about it.]

But not at the school. I'm taking you somewhere special. This weekend?

Okay. [ ducking her head and nodding repeatedly ]

I'll wear something nice for you.

[ not that she would. it's not like she has friends to go blab to. ]

[What else? This is Petre we're talking about.]

I'm gonna need a truck to carry all of these doorknobs.

But not too many? [ don't be a bad influence, man. ]

We should find a bag.

[He looks up the hall, then further down. They shouldn't be too far.]

My room. C'mon.

[ she'll just hold the one she just took. there is definitely a lack of doorknobs in this hallway now. she'll follow him if he leads the way ]

I've never been in a boy's room. [ HEH HEH ]

[Lead the way he does. His room's nowhere near these, which should mean he's free from being targeted for those doorknobs.]

Well, don't tell anyone mine was your first. You should probably not take it as an example, either. I clean up very nicely.

[Few possessions as he has, they're all tidied up and organized to his demanding liking. Aside from that she'll find a couple of books around his room, mandatory readings for the most part. Some of them just tools on how to catch up with everything he's missed from before the amnesia.]

[he pulls up a traveling back he's never used, unzips it open to start putting the doorknobs he dumped on his bed inside.]

[ she's interested in everything in there - and pushes one of the books further onto the surface it's on, as if it would fall over later. ]

Your room must be far cleaner than other boys if you had to say that.
