It's mostly the debate over whether those abrupt thoughts are important that starts to clue him in, and finally he can't just leave it alone anymore.]

[ but she's slowly lowering the book and looking over at him, thinking he spoke up instead of catching it in her head. what's he talking about? why's he speaking up now? but then telepath in the room is suddenly one of those many little blips that makes complete sense and she already answered her question unintentionally. it clicks like a puzzle piece and then followed by concerned thoughts instead of panicked ones one might get about an invasion of privacy like having someone in your head. she doesn't care about that. she cares more about disturbing his privacy. oh god. he can hear her. he wants to be alone and quiet probably and she's here making lots of head noise. and oh no she's making lots of head noise worrying about making lots of head noise.
